I'm writing a YA ...I'm so glad I read this. I'm writing a YA novel in which the heroine IS a rape survivor. She's from our world, but gets brought to another world. The country she initially takes to doesn't really have rape as a danger either gender, but as she travels in order to try to find a way home, she goes to other places where it's more of a threat. I wanted to do a Spec Fic series with a rape survivor protag mainly because I wanted to send the message that people who've had that happen can be epic heroes.<br /><br />And yes, she does have a love interest who doesn't think if her as sullied or damaged (he's a good guy, increasingly rare in YA love interests these days.)<br /><br />And I know what book it is you're talking about. :D That bothered me too, but then there were lots of messages about women that I didn't like.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
